I worked end-to-end on a workflow software for Risk & compliance.
The uncovered data points from research identified these key insights:
Where our users work - Spreadsheets. This mental model of row-columns largely influenced the design direction.
Current experience: The tedious, manual nature gave us problem areas which became features such as Action assignment, Advanced filtering, Bulk editing.
